Last week, a Nevada trade delegation led by Governor Brian Sandoval toured the facility where a key piece of the future of Southern Nevada’s access to water is in the process of being built. Headquartered in the Basque Country of Spain, Indar (an Ingeteam company), a world leader in rotating electrical machines, is manufacturing massive, cutting-edge submersible pumps to draw water from Lake Mead through the unprecedented infrastructure project known as the third straw.

“This remarkable technology is vital to the future of the Las Vegas Valley. It makes the third straw feasible, which secures Southern Nevada’s access to its primary water source in Lake Mead for many years to come,” said Governor Sandoval. “To be able to see this manufactured in the Basque Country, with its long-time connections to Nevada, is really special.”

"We are extremely fortunate to be partnering with an innovative industry leader such as Indar on the Low Lake Level Pumping Station. The commitment to engineering excellence and the application of research Indar has demonstrated have been invaluable to this project, which is so critical for Southern Nevada," Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) Deputy General Manager Dave Johnson.

Conceived and constructed by the SNWA, the third straw is a 600-foot deep, three-mile-long tunnel that winds its way through challenging rock to draw water from deep within Lake Mead to avoid problems with lower water levels.

GOED’s international division recently announced the creation of a new initiative aimed at attracting international, high-growth companies looking to establish U.S. footholds and expand. “Nevada Global” will partner with economic development agencies abroad to identify candidate businesses and connect them to Nevada’s startup accelerator community.
