INGEGRID^TM STORAGE

The INGEGRID™ STORAGE solution for energy storage applications is composed of the following elements:

Power Conversion System (PCS), which includes

INGEGRID™ PCS power converter

Exclusively designed and manufactured by Ingeteam in its installations in Europe and the United States.
Together with the control equipment, this is the core of the PCS.

It consists of Ingeteam's modular technology, assured by all of its experience in the field of power conversion.

Control equipment

Designed with Ingeteam technology and manufactured at its European factories, this includes everything you need for energy management, automation, protection, control and communication with local and remote interfaces:

Advanced PLCs for the controlling the storage system in realtime.
Energy Management System (EMS)
Local Data Acquisition and Supervision System.
Communication with the company's SCADA.

UPS and auxiliary services cabinet

These provide services to the the PCS and the storage system.

Air-Conditioning system

Ingeteam is not the manufacturer and only works with leading brands.

This keeps the PCS temperature within its operating range.

Ingeteam can install the PCS in an existing building, supply a prefabricated building, or supply it in a standard container to facilitate transport, portability and reduce the costs and execution times of civil engineering, assembly and commissioning.

Generation

Releases the power reserve for primary/secondary/tertiary regulation:

INGEGRID™ STORAGE allows generation plants to comply with frequency regulation requirements, releasing the power that the plant has reserved for these purposes.

Immediate response in the event of the loss of generation units:

In some generation plants, in the event of the loss of a unit, the frequency drop may partially (load shedding) or fully (black-out) compromise the supply of energy. INGEGRID™ STORAGE makes it possible to keep the frequency within safety limits during the time needed to replace the erroneous unit.

Optimisation of renewable sources integration:

More usage of renewable energy.
Reduce load oscillations.
Achieve predictability.

With the INGEGRID™ STORAGE solution, unmanageable renewable energy sources can become manageable.

Grid code compliance.

Load Shifting: To be able to supply energy when necessary and not necessarily when it is produced.

A typical example is wind power which obviously generates more energy when there is more wind, regardless of when the demand for energy arises.

Capacity Firming: Despite the unpredictability of some renewable sources, INGEGRID™ STORAGE can guarantee a load level defined in a given time.
Demand Response: The energy stored can be supplied according to the demand profiles.
Grid Code Compliance: Both in terms of support in the event of dips, power factor compliance and voltage regulation (capacity for the PCS to behave as a STATCOM) and to support complementary frequency control services.

Transmission & Distribution

Expansion of renewable generation integration capacity: Maintaining existing transmission and distribution infrastructure.
Peak Shaving: Using the energy available in the storage systems and supplying it to the grid during peak periods of demand, it is possible to postpone investments into infrastructure and extend the lifetime of switchgear and components as a result of a reduction in overloads.
Instantaneous Grid Stabilisation: This can be used to improve performance and prevent blackouts.

Voltage Regulation: INGEGRID™ STATCOM and INGEGRID™ STORAGE can absorb or inject reactive energy and hence regulate voltage at the grid point at which it is connected.
Frequency Regulation: INGEGRID™ STORAGE can absorb active power from the grid when the frequency increases and inject it when the frequency decreases. The response can be adapted to both instantaneous values (dozens of ms) and to hour portions (equivalent to tertiary regulation services.

Ancillary Services : INGEGRID™ STORAGE can be used for primary regulation, enabling spinning generation to work at full capacity any time.

For example, in Spain, primary regulation is obligatory and unpaid.

Emergency Backup:: To feed critical loads when the supply is lost.
Support for black starts and functioning in isolation: In the event of an anomaly which causes a whole section in the grid to shut down, INGEGRID™ STORAGE contributes to restoring the supply by providing the energy needed for conventional systems to start up.

Consumption

Load peak reduction: To use the energy stored during off-peak times so that it can be used at peak times and so that a lower contracted power can be achieved.

For example, in the railway system, INGEGRID™ STORAGE can be used to limit consumption peaks when the units are being started up.

	EXPERIENCE APPLYING POWER CONVERTERS: 40 years of designing converters for different applications has equipped Ingeteam with the experience needed to guarantee the reliability of the new INGEGRID™ STORAGE in a new market.
	Its water-cooled system (for MVA converters): Increases the converter's power density. Reduces noise. Increases efficiency by minimising AC consumption. Increases reliability since it has fewer mobile parts. Reduces the need to maintain the filter compared to air-cooled systems.

	OPTIMISED FOR EACH APPLICATION: Greater performance obtained from the specific design based on applications in which it is used. Contribution of our INGEGRID™ SIM simulation tools which make it possible to analyse the viability of each project.
	INDEPENDENT FROM STORAGE TECHNOLOGY Some electro-chemical storage technologies are in an even earlier stage in their development and significant technical and financial improvements are foreseen in the mid term. In the case of some electro-chemical storage technologies, battery life is approximately 5 to 15 years. INGEGRID™ STORAGE's useful life is 20 years. Once the useful life of the batteries has expired, with some small design modifications, INGEGRID™ STORAGE makes it possible for more modern batteries to be used (with a new technology made by the same manufacturer, a different manufacturer, a different storage technology, etc.).
	MODULARITY AND PORTABILITY: This makes it resizeable (more or less power/energy) and easier to relocate.
	POSSIBILITY OF BEHAVING AS INGEGRID™ STATCOM, Having the advantages of both applications in one single application.
