Hydropower is one of the oldest and largest sources of renewable energy, which uses the natural flow of moving water to generate electricity. Hydropower accounts for 16% of global electricity generation, a higher percentage than all other renewable energies combined. In addition, it also produces the largest amount of energy, at 64%. Hydropower is expected to remain the world’s largest source of renewable electricity generation and play a critical role in decarbonizing the power system and improving system flexibility.
