Ingeteam was awarded an important contract, by the Finnish company Outokumpu Tornio Works (OTW), to modernize a rolling mill located in the city of Tornio, Finland.
The mill, which produces stainless steel coils, was built in 1976 and is very important to OTW, because part of the factory’s total production is processed in it. Furthermore, it has a manufacturing capacity of 400,000 tons of stainless steel a year, with widths ranging from 600 to 1,620 mm.
This is not the first time that Ingeteam has worked for this multinational, since it has participated on other Outokumpu projects in Sweden. On this occasion, as a result of the trust gained from previous work, Ingeteam is again working with this important client.
Ingeteam will replace the entire electrical system. Thus, it will change all electric, automation and control equipment, including the 4,000-amp, direct-current main power drives, alternating-current auxiliary drives, auxiliary motors, consoles and field sensors, as well as a flatness measurement system. Moreover, the automation will be based on a distributed control system (DCS) in keeping with the fully integrated automation system that brings the control and visualization of the production process together with its design engineering. This will facilitate line operation and maintenance work, in addition to executing future process updates in a simpler and more effective way.
The duration of the modernization works will be approximately one year. During this period Ingeteam will undertake the engineering, start-up and supervision of the project, as well as installation coordination.
