INGETEAM energy recovery technology in METRO de BARCELONA

After the contract won recently, Ingeteam will supply and install 2 INGEBER energy recovery systems in lines 3 & 4 of Metro de Barcelona which, will allow TMB, the operator of the lines, to lower its C02 emissions and to cut its energy bill.

The systems, powered 1.7MW, will be installed on two different substations, one on each line. They will be recovering energy at full at the end of 2017.

Another system of similar characteristics is being installed in Line 9 of Metro de Barcelona, following an agreement reached in 2015, which is currently under testing.

After four years of investigation by the Ingeteam Traction Division and a three million Euro investment, the company has developed INGEBER which is ideal for suburban trains, trams and metros, given the fact that these are all required to make many stops, which is precisely when the system recovers energy that otherwise would be burnt.

The INGEBER energy recovery technology has already been installed on more than 20 different locations, proving to be a successful technology to improve sustainability of railways systems and to improve efficiency in cities such as Bielefeld, Bilbao, Brussels, Wien and Rio de Janeiro.
