Ingeteam celebrates 25 years of activity dedicated to renewable energies

This year, the Ingeteam group division operating in the renewable energies sector is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The core business of this company located close to Pamplona, in northern a Spain region called Navarra, is the design of equipment intended for the renewable energy sector, specifically wind power, photovoltaic power and hydropower, in addition to the infrastructures for charging electric vehicles.

The plant currently has a headcount of 250 persons, in addition to a further 200 employees working at the factory. According to Javier Coloma, the Ingeteam’s Energy Division Managing Director, this all goes to show how the company is "committed to creating jobs within the region of Navarra". As he explained, the company bases its activity on promoting research and development work, given the fact that each year Ingeteam allocates more than 7% of its turnover for this purpose.

Likewise, the presence of Ingeteam is an important asset for Navarra and for the countries in which the company operates. Javier Coloma highlighted the fact that the company in Navarra started out "with just five employees, whilst today we're talking about a company that has internationalised and has extended its sales network", a fact that serves to demonstrate the considerable progress made by this Ingeteam division dedicated to renewable energies. The company exports its products to all five continents and has subsidiaries in 20 countries so far, with particular mention of Chile, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Australia and India.

The equipment designed by this company is manufactured at the Ingeteam plant in Sesma, where some 200 persons are employed in production work. To date, Ingeteam has globally installed 30,000 MW in the wind power sector, 7,000 MW in the hydropower sector, more than 4,000 MW in the photovoltaic sector and more than 1,300 EV charging stations.

To celebrate its anniversary, the company organised an evening meal at the Congress Centre and Auditorium of Pamplona, an event attended by Gregorio Rivas, the founder of the Energy division and former CEO of the Ingeteam Group. He reminded us that "the initial company was entered in the Companies' Register in red and white on the 12th July 1990, right in the middle of the San Fermin bull running fiestas". (Red and white are the colours of the traditional attire worn during the festivities). Addressing all those present, Gregorio highlighted the "values of companionship and dedication to work, as well as the innovative spirit to develop technological solutions, which have characterised Ingeteam's work right from the outset". He also took the opportunity to remind everyone of the need to keep this spirit of innovation alive, so as to enable the company to carry on offering some unique, genuine solutions, in an endeavour to "do what no one else does".

During the celebration, the history of Ingeteam Energy was briefly outlined; the company started out in 1990 with the development of the Zudaire hydropower plant (Navarra), which is still operating today. This was followed by other hydropower plants (Irabia, Viana and Alcanadre) and then, in 1996, Ingeteam started operations in the wind power sector with the design of the first converters for the EHN wind turbines in Navarra. Four years' later, in year 2000, Ingeteam developed its first photovoltaic inverter, a 2.5 kW single-phase model installed at the headquarters of Indar, another company in the Ingeteam group. During that same year, another group company was founded, exclusively dedicated to operation and maintenance tasks at renewable energy generating plants: Ingeteam Service.
