Distributed inputs/outputs through the RTSX bus in INGESYS IC2

The INGESYSTM IC2 control system responds to both centralised and distributed input/output control solutions.  

Until now, INGESYSTM IC2 incorporated distributed inputs/outputs based on the standard CAN bus and in I/O acquisition units with CAN bus terminals. 

This initial option has been complemented with the option of a distributed input/output system based on the Ingeteam proprietary bus, called RTSX, with the development of bus terminal units specifically for this bus.

This option of distributed inputs/outputs via the RTSX bus, has the following advantages with respect to the distributed architecture based on the CAN bus:

  • Expansion using an optic fibre bus which allows greater distances, up to 50m (in plastic fibre) and up to 250m (in HCS fibre), between two bus elements, better behaviour in the event of EMC, and a faster transmission speed of 10Mb/s
  • More user friendly.  The RTSX bus has a high level of integration in the INGESYSTM IC2 controller, allowing distributed I/Os to behave as I/Os which are local to the controller, making it easier for the user to program and monitor them
  • Optimised cost

In the INGESYSTM IC2 controller’s processor unit, the RTSX bus is housed as one of the field bus options available.   In the figure, you can see an INGESYSTM IC2 processor unit with the RTSX bus port: 

The remote units (INGESYSTM IC2-RIO in RTSX) allow the option of two fibre interfaces, called RTSX IN and RTSX OUT respectively for the creation of daisy-chains.  Hence, wiring is simplified by the elimination of optic stars, with subsequent savings in terms of costs.
